The evening brought together an exceptional cross-section of leaders and partners, including government representatives from The Executive Council, The Legislative Council, The Health Bureau, the Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau, and the Pharmaceutical Administration Bureau (ISAF) of Macao SAR, among others.
The evening was officially set in motion by HKAPI President Ms. Peggy Fung, whose welcome speech powerfully anchored the night’s theme. She reminded guests that sustainability is all about balance — delivering high-quality, patient-centred care while ensuring our healthcare system remains financially viable and resilient for the future. Peggy emphasised that when viewed holistically, innovation is not merely a cost to be counted, but a long-term investment that improves health outcomes, enhances productivity, and strengthens the sustainability of Hong Kong’s healthcare system.
The panellists shared powerful insights on how the pharmaceutical industry, the Hospital Authority, and academia are deeply and inextricably connected — not only in their collective mission to build a better healthcare system and drive improved patient outcomes for Hong Kong, but also in their mutual reliance on one another for sustainability and growth.
“Industry die, we die — we die, industry also die.”
— Dr. Libby Lee delivered one of the most striking lines of the evening, frankly acknowledging that the Hospital Authority and the pharmaceutical industry are mutually dependent. She called for a shift away from the historically “hostile” attitude of healthcare managers toward the industry, and expressed the Hospital Authority’s eagerness to partner with pharmaceutical companies on real-world data studies.
To every guest who joined us on this special occasion — thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your presence, passion, and partnership make HKAPI’s journey all the more meaningful. Here’s to continued collaboration, innovation, and a healthier future for all.
