The HKAPI
is in close touch with events concerning
the industry in the south-east Asian region
through contact with the local industry associations
or groups.
The HKAPI has been a member of the International
Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers
Associations (IFPMA) since 1971 and hosted
a meeting of the IFPMA Council in Hong Kong
in November 1973. It has also been represented
by the Executive Director at Council Meetings
held in Baden-Baden, Mexico City, Tokyo, Madrid,
Paris, Montreux, Washington, DC, London, Singapore,
Malmo, Vienna, and Cape Town. The Executive
Director was a member of the Council of the
IFPMA 1992-94.
In November 1997, the HKAPI was host to the
first IFPMA Asian Regulatory Conference held
in the HK Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The objectives were to share the experiences
of the International Conference on Harmonisation
(ICH) participants with regulatory authorities
in Asia, and to explore opportunities of the
harmonisation of regulatory requirements within
the region.
The Conference was attended by regulators from
Cambodia, China, Hong Kong SAR China, Taiwan
China, South Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines,
Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Speakers were
from Asian regulatory authorities, Japan MHW,
IFPMA, United States FDA, WHO, a European authority,
Centre for Medicines Research International
(UK) and pharmaceutical companies.
Following a very successful meeting, a second
IFPMA Asian Regulatory Conference was held
in 1999 in Singapore.
In February 2007, the HKAPI was host to the
first IFPMA Code Compliance Network – Asia
Roll Out Meeting, followed by a second one
held in July the same year in Singapore. |
